![]() Katie Gill (Proprietor of The Curious Caboodle) My work is tactile and whimsical, sometimes peculiar with a little bit of oddity and a lot of curiousness. I enjoy using a wide range of techniques and make an eclectic mix of items including paintings, collage, jewellery, textiles, ornaments, sculpture and assemblage. ![]() Stories between these elements are formed as I work and are weaved into my creations. These forgotten treasures are reincarnated in my art and craft work and are fused with different elements. More often than not it is the intrigue of the memories that are attached to an object, the unknown past life it has lived. The more age, wear, rust and patina, the better. It can be the shape, colour or texture of a find that attracts me to it. I scavenge for my treasures in dusty antique shops and thrifty flea markets, on walks at the beach or in the woods. Everything is fair game and nothing is off limits. I love nothing more than sorting items into containers by categories and labelling. I have a passion for collecting and hoarding. Our house is a five minute walk from the beautiful tree lined local cemetery and has an inspiring view of Scarborough Castle and the sea. I live with my partner and a rather cantankerous cat named Earl Grey. I am invariably hidden away being industrious in my bijou studio at home in Scarborough. I am an artist and maker of crafty and creative things. a complete group or collection of something exciting attention as strange, novel, or unexpectedĭefinition of Caboodle - 1. marked by desire to investigate and learn. I instantly connected with this word, both it’s meaning and sound, and the glaringly obvious match was curious.ĭefinition of Curious - 1. Then, appearing from the pages of the thesaurus was ‘caboodle’. Words such as compendium, collection, almanac, trove, story, foraged, menagerie, emporium were paired with others such as treasures, trinkets, curios, mementos, relics, miscellany, found, ephemera. The name was born after many brainstorming sessions and thumbing through a well-loved thesaurus. I was on a quest to find a name for my new creative venture that summed up me, what I do and what I make. The Curious Caboodle came to life in early 2018. ![]()
